Gordon Defeats MIT Field Hockey, 2-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Gordon College's Mollie Sweeney scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 36 seconds into the game as the Fighting Scots defeated MIT, 2-0, in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday. The loss brings the Engineers' ledger to 4-5 on the year.
Just after the opening whistle, Gordon (3-4) gained possession in its zone where Sarah Orlando sent the ball to Sweeney for the opening tally. Both sides were evenly matched the remainder of the half as the Engineers posted three shots while the Fighting Scots totaled seven.
Gordon controlled the ball in the second stanza as it out-shot Tech, 12-5. With 28:18 on the clock, Nichole Hunt sent a strike into the circle which was redirected by Abigail Walker for the second goal of the night.
Alexa Herman collected 11 saves, marking the second time this season she has reached double-figures.
