MIT Falls to Babson, 4-0

BABSON PARK, MASS. - Babson College scored three goals in the first half as the Beavers (5-4, 1-0 NEWMAC) defeated visiting MIT, 4-0, in the NEWMAC opener for both squads on Saturday.

Babson snapped a scoreless tie in the 14th minute as Laura Ham scored her first collegiate goal on a tip-in from in front of the cage. The Beavers then made it 2-0 when Gina Giardina redirected a shot from Katie Janson. Elise Conley added another goal when she dribbled through three defenders with 8:10 remaining in the half.

Babson's offense continued to dominate in the second stanza, with Katie Connon extending the Beavers' lead to four. The Engineers (3-4, 0-1 NEWMAC) eventually came alive on the offensive end, tallying eight shots in the closing minutes.

Alexa Herman and Megan Roberts each finished with three saves while splitting time in net for Tech. Amanda Smith also added a defensive save for the Engineers.

The next game for MIT will be on Thursday, Sept. 30 when it travels to UMass-Dartmouth.
