South Hadley, Mass. - MIT pulled out the win in this tight NEWMAC match-up on a goal by Deanna Lentz, her 11th of the season. After a scoreless first half, Mount Holyoke came out strong, out-shooting the Engineers 14-4 and earning 11 corners to MIT's two for the half. With six minutes remaining in the game, Lentz capitalized on one of MIT's four chances when she dribbled the ball through several defenders and slipped it past Mount Holyoke's keeper for the score.
Tech's Alexa Herman posted 11 saves for the shutout. Amanda Smith notched her seventh defensive save of the season, helping her establish a new Institute mark of 22 career defensive saves. In goal, Jenny Wing stopped eight shots for Mount Holyoke. With the win, MIT improves to 8-5 (3-2 NEWMAC), while Mount Holyoke slips to 6-7, 2-4 in conference play.
MIT hosts its final home game of the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 6:00 p.m. when it faces Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
