CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released its National Academic squad on Thursday and MIT picked up nine individual selections, in addition to receiving the National Academic Team award for the seventh consecutive season. As a team, the Engineers finished with the fourth highest GPA in Division III, with a 3.50 cumulative average.
Alona Birjiniuk and Katie Boothe capped their careers with a third selection to the National Academic squad. The seniors have now earned this distinction in each of the three years they have been eligible. In addition to Birjiniuk and Boothe, Priscilla Army, Keri Dixon, Ekavali Mishra, Jessica Oleinik, Danielle Smith, Alex Wright and Nirupama Yechoor were named on the Squad. Army and Mishra were each repeat honorees.
The Engineers finished in a tie with Connecticut College with the fourth highest team GPA in the country. Swarthmore College finished with the nation's highest mark at 3.59.
