COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In the program's first trip to Colorado, the MIT women's lacrosse team was defeated by Colorado College, 20-9, on Tuesday. Senior Laura Wacker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Engineers (2-4) with six points on two goals and an assist.
Senior Molly McShane (Lake Bluff, Ill.) posted two goals and two groundballs for the Cardinal and Gray while freshman Kira Schott (New Canaan, Conn.) tallied one goal, one assist, 11 draw controls, and three groundballs. Fellow freshman Isabella DiDio (Jenkintown, Pa.) produced one goal, six draw controls, five groundballs, and one caused turnover as senior Meghan Wright (Devon, Pa.) totaled one goal, two groundballs, and a caused turnover. In net, sophomore Candice Kaplan (Arlington, Va.) collected 11 saves.
The Tigers recorded the first three goals of the game while a solo effort by Wacker put MIT on the board at the 20:25 mark. Following back-to-back strikes by CC, Wacker replied with a free-position shot that brought the Engineers within three (5-2) midway through the frame. The hosts increased their margin just over a minute later but McShane connected on a feed from Wacker to make the score, 6-3. The Tigers countered by outscoring MIT, 5-1, during the last 5:45 of the half to enter the intermission with an 11-4 advantage.
MIT wasted little time in finding the back of the net in the second stanza as freshman Nadia Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) found DiDio after 50 seconds elapsed. An exchange of goals ensued as an unassisted marker by Schott narrowed the gap to 13-7 with 15:59 on the clock. This was as close as it would get for the Engineers as CC ended the game with a 7-2 run.
MIT concludes its spring training trip on Wednesday, March 27 when it faces Pacific University at Colorado College.
