MIT Defeats Framingham State, 20-6

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the inaugural meeting between both programs, the MIT women’s lacrosse team topped visiting Framingham State College, 20-6, on Thursday. With the victory, the Engineers improved to 9-3 on the year and broke the Institute standards for goals and points in a season, surpassing the previous marks of 161 and 195, respectively. Erica Little and Casey Flynn each notched four goals and two assists for MIT while Kerry Kiley paced the Rams (4-6) with four goals.
Kiley put Framingham State on the board after 1:28 elapsed, but the lead was short-lived as the Cardinal and Gray tallied seven unanswered goals in a span of six minutes. Kiley scored three out of the next four goals, bringing the Rams within four (8-4) with 9:57 remaining in the half. MIT quickly doubled its lead before a free-position shot by Framingham State’s Ashley Noonan made the score, 12-5, at the break.
The Engineers extended their margin courtesy of eight straight goals over the course of the second half. Sam Laferriere ended the Rams’ scoring drought on a coast-to-coast run with 2:16 left to play.
Lauren Rodda anchored MIT’s defense with seven groundballs and four caused turnovers as Alex Wright totaled three groundballs, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Kelly Duncan posted three goals and two assists while Stephanie Brenman notched six groundballs, four goals, and two draw controls. Edith Reshef recorded two goals and an assist as Molly McCartin collected seven saves.
In addition to her team-high scoring performance, Kiley added four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Laferriere contributed four groundballs and two draw controls as Kelleigh Sheehan tallied three groundballs. Victoria Matthei and Melissa Price each posted two caused turnovers while Allesha Kenyon grabbed 11 saves.
Both squads continue action on the road on Saturday, April 18. MIT will travel to NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke College while Framingham State will visit Rhode Island College.
