Vanessa Cox Named NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2008 Women's Lacrosse postseason awards on Tuesday. Head coach Vanessa Cox was voted the league's Coach of the Year, marking the first award in the program's history. In her first season at the helm of the program, she guided MIT to its first NEWMAC Championship Tournament semifinal appearance following a 13-12 victory over Wheaton College in the first round.

Laura Watson, Casey Flynn, and Samantha O'Keefe were named to the All-Conference Second Team, giving the Engineers three honorees for the second straight season. Watson, a Second-Team selection last year, led the way in goals (32), draw controls (34), and caused turnovers (13) while ranking second in points (33) and groundballs (30). Flynn, a First-Team pick following her rookie campaign, led MIT in points (38) and assists (13) while compiling 25 goals and 19 draw controls. O'Keefe collected her first conference award after tallying 28 goals, 31 points, 25 groundballs, 30 draw controls, and nine caused turnovers.
