MIT Finishes 11th in Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Rankings
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second year in a row MIT placed 11th among all Division III schools in the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) annual Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. The Engineers’ Institute-best finish once again registered as the highest performance by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

Three Engineers Honored as ECAC, NSCAA Announce Women’s Soccer Final Awards
Cambridge, Mass. – Midfielder Lauren Hernley and goalkeeper Meghan Wright have been named ECAC Division III New England Women’s Soccer All Stars for the 2010 season. Hernley has also been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-East Region Scholar First Team, while forward Alisha Lussiez has earned NSCAA All-East Scholar Honorable Mention.

Four Engineers Earn All-New England Honors
Cambridge, Mass. – The New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) has announced their 2010 All New-England Soccer Teams today, and four members of the MIT team have been recognized for their play this season. Senior Lauren Hernley was the leading vote-getter among all half-backs with sixteen votes, earning herself a spot on the First Team. She was joined by sophomore forward Emily Kuo. Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Wright and junior striker Alisha Lussiez each nabbed spots on the All-New England Second Team.

Cambridge, Mass. – Adding another accolade to her stellar senior season, Lauren Hernley has been named a member of the second team All-New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The honor compiles the best division three players in each of eight regions, based on the vote of member coaches.

Lauren Hernley is Third Academic All American in MIT Women’s Soccer History
Cambridge, Mass. – Midfielder and Captain Lauren Hernley has been named to the COSIDA ESPN Academic All-America First Team. Hernley becomes the third player in MIT women’s soccer history to earn All-America honors, joining Amy Ludlum (07) and Jeri Ikeda (87), and is the first to be selected in the First Team.

Cambridge, Mass. – MIT Senior midfielder Lauren Hernley has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s soccer player of the year for the second year in a row. With the honor, Hernley also earns an automatic spot on the NEWMAC All-Conference team, where she is joined by four other Engineers. Forwards Alisha Lussiez and Emily Kuo and goalie Meghan Wright join Hernley on the NEWMAC First Team, while lockdown defender Andrea Park has earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.

Women's Soccer Eliminated in Heartbreaking NEWMAC Semifinal
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Second-seeded Babson College converted its first four penalty kick opportunities to advance past third-seeded MIT in the semifinal round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Tournament at Springfield College on Saturday. The contest officially ended in a 0-0 double-overtime tie, with Babson moving on in PKs.

Women's Soccer Falls to Babson, Prepares for NEWMAC Tournament First Round
BABSON PARK, Mass. – Kristy Benoit scored the game's only goal to lift Babson College to a thrilling 1-0 victory over visiting MIT in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) finale on Saturday. With the victory, Babson (11-6-1 overall, 6-2-1 NEWMAC) clinches the second seed and a first-round bye in next week's conference tournament, and will head to Springfield College for the semifinals next Saturday. Meanwhile, MIT (13-3-1 overall, 6-2-1), ranked sixth in New England in the most recent NSCAA/HendrickCars.com Regional Poll, will enter the tourney as the third seed and will host Wellesley in the first round on Tuesday, November 2.

Park’s Performance Highlights Senior Day Victory
Cambridge, Mass. – Andrea Park had a goal and three assists and Lauren Hernley scored in her final regular season home game as the MIT Engineers stifled the Mount Holyoke College Lyons 6-0 on Senior Day at Roberts Field. With one minute and ten seconds left in a hard fought battle on Tuesday afternoon, Merricka Livingstone delivered a gem of a goal to lift the Engineers over visiting Salem State College by a 1-0 score. Cambridge, Mass. – The MIT women’s soccer team took Springfield College to overtime on Saturday at Robert’s Field but fell to the Pride 2-1 on a laser of a goal in the 96th minute. The Engineers were looking to make history by breaking the program record for most consecutive shutouts, a mark they tied at four with their victory on Tuesday.

WORCESTER, Mass. – MIT junior Alisha Lussiez scored the game’s lone goal in the 24th minute and the visiting Engineers topped host Clark University in NEWMAC women’s soccer on Saturday afternoon at the Granger Soccer Complex. MIT, which posted its fourth shutout of the season and third in a row, improved to 5-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play while the Cougars dropped their second straight and slip to 3-3, 0-1 in NEWMAC action.

MIT Ranks Fourth Among All NCAA Institutions in 2010 NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings
CHICAGO, Ill. – The National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) recently announced its eighth annual Collegiate Power Rankings. Following another tremendous year, the Engineers were listed fourth overall in securing their highest ranking in the history of the report. The NCSA Athletic Recruiting’s Collegiate Power Rankings assess the academic and athletics standards of all NCAA athletic programs across the country. The Power Rankings were developed to help prospective student athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I, II and III levels.

MIT Opens 2010 Season with Historic Victory
Cambridge, Mass. -- Last season’s NEWMAC player of the year Lauren Hernley scored twice in the second half and propelled the MIT Engineers to a 2-1 come from behind victory over the Brandeis Judges. It was the 200th victory in the history of women’s soccer at MIT and it kick-started a season in which the NEWMAC champs hope to find their way to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.
