NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Senior forward Alissa Lussiez scored the only goal of the match to lead visiting MIT to a 1-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team in a non-conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday.
Lussiez converted a pass from sophomore midfielder Stephanie Cooke and chipped home a short shot with 38 seconds left in the first half. The Corsairs were unable to tie the score against MIT sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Wright, who made four saves to earn her second straight shutout.
"I'm not happy with the loss, but I'm pleased with the way we played," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Hanewich. "I think we left it all out on the field. I'm feeling confident, and I think we're learning how to play together. I'm really excited to start conference play on Saturday.
The Engineers outshot the Corsairs, 20-8. UMass Dartmouth senior goalkeeper Tanya Braga (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) made 10 saves.
MIT improved to 4-1 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host RIC Saturday. MIT will visit Clark Saturday.
