Six Different Players Score in Shutout of Coast Guard
New London, Conn. -- Six different players scored as MIT extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 6-0 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Sophomore Emily Kuo scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute before sophomore Leslie Meyer and Lussiez scored 40 seconds apart in the 24th and 25th minute to give the Engineers a 3-0 lead. Lussiez assisted on Meyer's goal while Hernley assisted on the third goal.
Hernley scored in the 69th minute with freshman Michaelann Rodriguez adding the assist before Allison Park closed the scoring by finding the back of the net in the 85th minute as freshman Rachel Dias Carlson assisted on the final goal.
MIT outshot Coast Guard 16-4. Sophomore Meghan Wright made just two saves to record her 11th shutout of the season, while the Engineers registered their 12th clean sheet of this campaign.
The Engineers, ranked sixth in the New England coaches poll, lead the NEWMAC with 53 goals scored and just six allowed.
Coast Guard dropped its fifth straight and drops to 5-9 overall and 1-7 in conference play. They will play a non-conference match at home Tuesday against Connecticut College before finishing their season by hosting Wheaton on Saturday. The Engineers will finish their regular season next Saturday with a game at Babson College.
