In the 17th minute of play, sophomore Ambika Krishnamachar (Darien, Conn.) headed the ball into the net after a corner kick by fellow sophomore Samantha Fleischmann (Eastchester, N.Y.). Less than 15 minutes later, senior Emily Kuo (Chicago, Ill.), who had an open field, booted the ball into the back of the net to score her sixth goal of the season, giving the Engineers a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.
MIT put even more distance between them and Babson when senior Merricka Livingstone (Palm Bay, Fla.) scored her first goal of the season in the 60th minute of play. The Beavers, however, made up for that gap when Meghan Andrew snuck the ball past senior goalie Meghan Wright (Devon, Pa.) 7 minutes later.
Babson got even closer when Jessica Diphilippo scored their second goal of the game in the 79th minute. The Engineers were able to keep the Beavers from scoring any more goals though and the second half ended with an MIT victory of 3-2.
The Cardinal and Gray return to the field on Tuesday, Sept. 18 when they host Roger Williams at 4:00 p.m., while the Beavers will host Framingham State that same day.
