CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT women's soccer team received good news on Monday afternoon in the form of an at-large bid to the upcoming NCAA Championship tournament. The Engineers will travel to Haverford, Pennsylvania to face host Haverford College on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1:30 p.m.
MIT, who made NCAA appearances in 2009 and 2011, received a bye to the semifinals of the NEWMAC championship against Springfield but did not advance to the finals. Haverford won its first Centennial Conference championship title over the weekend and received an automatic bid to the tournament. This is the first time the two teams have met.
The Engineers, who are coached by Martin Desmarais and led by senior captains Andrea Park (Irvine, Calif.), Emily Kuo (Chicago, Ill.) and goalie Meghan Wright (Devon, Pa.), shared the regular season title with Springfield after both teams wrapped the season up with a record of 8-1 in conference play. MIT is one of three teams, along with Springfield and Wheaton, that will represent the NEWMAC at NCAAs.
