Emily Kuo Voted as NEWMAC Athlete of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT senior Emily Kuo (Chicago, Ill.) was voted as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Athlete of the Year. This is the third time in the past four years that the award has gone to an MIT student-athlete. With the honor, Kuo also earned an automatic spot on the NEWMAC All-Conference team, where she was joined by three other Engineers. Kuo and fellow senior Andrea Park (Irvine, Calif.) were named to the First Team, while senior Meghan Wright (Devon, Pa.) and junior Samantha Fleischmann (Eastchester, Pa.) were tabbed to the Second Team.

Kuo, who has received first team selection honors every year that she has been at MIT, scored a team-leading 12 goals throughout the 2012 season. She is currently second in the NEWMAC in goals and fourth in points (25) and is fourth in the MIT record book for career goals (41).

Receiving the second first team selection in her career, Park has scored two goals and tallied two assists to total six points for her senior season. She was also recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District women's soccer team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the first time.

MIT's starting goalkeeper, Wright, has appeared on the All-Conference team three times in her career. She is currently the MIT record holder for fewest goals allowed (season and career), saves (career), save percentage (season and career), goals against average (season and career) and shutouts (season and career). She was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team last week, the third time she has appeared on the list in the past four years.

Fleischmann, who is receiving her first All-Conference honors, has scored three goals and totaled three assists to equal 12 points, the second highest on the team for the season. She is currently tied for fourth in the NEWMAC for assists. The junior is one of only four Engineers who have started and played in all 18 games this season.
