Lauren Ullmann Named NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week
BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Ullmann (Princeton, N.J.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. In a week that saw the MIT women's soccer team defeat Tufts University for the first time in series history and tie undefeated Lesley University in double overtime, Ullmann played every minute in net, racking up 200 minutes before the week was done.
In MIT's 2-1 win over Tufts on Tuesday, Ullmann registered 11 saves and only allowed one goal. Her most impressive save came with 25 minutes remaining on the clock, pushing a ball just over the crossbar with the fingertips of her right hand. In her 110 minutes against Lesley on Saturday, she had her first career shutout, saving 10 of the 15 shots that were fired at her. Her record for her first collegiate season stands at 4-1-1.
Tech, who is currently ranked 22nd in the nation and third in the region in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, will next hit the road for Rhode Island, facing Roger Williams University at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
