Krishnamachar Receives NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week Nod

BOSTON, Mass. – MIT women's soccer junior Ambika Krishnamachar (Darien, Conn.) picked up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

In MIT's 2-0 week, she notched three goals, bringing her total this season to five goals in five goals, which ties her for first on the team. In MIT's 3-1 win over Wheaton College on Tuesday, she scored the game-winning goal, finding the back of the net twice in the span of just over a minute and a half. Against Clark University on Saturday, she scored four minutes into the second half off a sliding kick just outside the box, helping to lead the Engineers to a 3-0 win over the Cougars.

In the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) that was released earlier today, the Engineers moved up from being ranked 22nd in the nation to 19th. So far this season, MIT has been ranked as high as 13th, the highest it has ever been ranked in program history. Tech remains ranked second in the New England region behind Middlebury College.

MIT, who is currently 8-2-2 on the season and sits atop the NEWMAC standings with a record of 4-1 in league play, continues with conference play tonight when it faces Wellesley College on the road at 4:00 p.m.
