BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Ambika Krishnamachar (Darien, Conn.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday following her strong performances this past week. She tallied three goals, two of which were game-winners, and three assists in Tech's undefeated week to help the women's soccer team clinch the top seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament. This is the third time in less than three weeks and the second week in a row that she has received this honor. She was also named the ECAC Player of the Week the following day.
Against Emerson College on Tuesday, she netted the lone goal of the game at the 24 minute mark after weaving her way around the defense and burying the ball in the top right corner of the net. In the 5-1 win over Coast Guard on Saturday, she had a hand in every single goal that MIT scored. She was the assist on the first, third and fifth goals and scored her own at the 28 and 48 minute marks, the first of the two being unassisted.
With their record of 8-1-1 in NEWMAC play, the Engineers shared the regular season title with Wheaton College but, since they defeated the Lyons early last month, MIT earned the right to host the 2013 NEWMAC Championships. Tech received a bye into the semifinals and will face the winner of the Wellesley/Babson matchup at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. The finals will be held at 3:00 p.m. the following day.
