CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seniors Kaitlyn Nealon (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Rachel Dias Carlson (Albany, N.Y.) were selected to play in the annual New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl. The game, which features the best seniors from all three divisions across the region, will be played at the fields of Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. Nealon, who was recently named to the second team of the Capital One Academic All-America Division III women's soccer team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the second consecutive year, played in and started 18 games throughout her senior season. She was a pivotal part of the dangerous Tech defense that had MIT ranked top in the conference with just nine goals allowed and a .40 goals against average. Named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) first team All-Conference, Dias Carlson appeared in and started 20 games this season. She scored three goals and a team-leading six assists for 12 points, which placed her second on the team. She was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for the third year in a row. Dias Carlson was one of six midfielders selected to play in the Senior Bowl. Tech ended its season with a record of 13-2-6 at the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament after the Rochester Institute of Technology advanced over it in penalty kicks, 4-3. MIT wrapped up the regular season with a conference record of 8-1-1, earning a share of the regular season title and the right to host the 2013 NEWMAC Tournament. The Engineers advanced over Babson in penalty kicks, 3-0, in the semifinal, but Springfield advanced over the Engineers in the final, 4-3.
