MIT Women's Soccer Fights Past Mount Holyoke, 1-0
Oct. 16, 2004
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Junior Meghan O'Kane scored in the 59th minute of Saturday's NEWMAC soccer tilt to lead MIT (5-5-1, 2-3-1) to a 1-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College at Steinbrenner Stadium. Junior defender Juthica Mallela delivered a perfectly-placed long ball that O'Kane snared deep inside the Mount Holyoke box. O'Kane promptly directed the feed into the net for her second goal of the season. With the loss, Mount Holyoke falls to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in the Conference.
The Engineers controlled possession for most of the afternoon, outshooting the Lyons, 14-7, while limiting Mount Holyoke's scoring opportunities. Freshman Amy Ludlum just missed on her sixth goal of the campaign early in the second half, hitting the near post with a clean strike. MIT had other chances deep in the Lyons' territory, but the Mount Holyoke defense kept the Tech attack at bay.
Sophomore Kat Vater stopped five shots en route to her fourth shutout of the season. Junior Tiffany Picard grabbed eight saves in the loss, including a tremendous stop against junior Diana Sterk late in the first half.
