SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Sophomore Amy Ludlum scored two goals to bracket Mary Harding's game-winning tally as MIT picked up its second conference win of the year with a 3-1 victory over Mount Holyoke, Sunday afternoon. MIT improves to 4-9-0 (2-4-0 NEWMAC) with the win, while the Lyons remain winless in conference play (4-8-0, 0-5-0).
The Lyons grabbed an early lead when sophomore Bethany Paterson netted her first collegiate goal in the 20th minute. Senior Katie Kraschel set up Mount Holyoke's lone score with a nice feed through the middle.
MIT responded less than 10 minutes later as Ludlum scored on a direct shot. Fired from about 18 yards out, senior tri-captain Juthica Mallela earned her first point of the season after setting up Ludlum's finish.
The Engineers struck again just five minutes later to take the lead heading into the halftime break. Meghan O'Kane delivered a pass into the box which Mary Harding punched in for her first goal of the year.
The Cardinal and Gray wrapped up the scoring in the 72nd minute as Ludlum connected on her eighth goal of the 2005 campaign. O'Kane served up her second consecutive helper on the goal, which secured MIT's second three-goal game of the year.
Mount Holyoke increased the pressure in the second half, but MIT net minder, Kat Vater, was solid between the posts. The junior keeper finished the day with seven saves to secure Tech's second road conference win in three tries. Senior Tiffany Picard posted three saves on the sheet in the losing effort for the Lyons.
