NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Senior forward Amy Ludlum connected on her fifth game-winning finish of the season, including her second in overtime as MIT maintained third place in the NEWMAC standings following a 1-0 victory at Smith College on Saturday afternoon.
Although Smith (4-8-1, 3-4-0) enjoyed the better chances during the first 100 minutes of play, Ludlum once again proved that MIT's (11-4-0, 6-2-0) attack will make the most out of every opportunity. One game after setting an MIT soccer record for career goals, Ludlum was able to counter off a Smith corner kick and get the win for the Engineers in the 101st minute.
MIT and Smith each finished with 11 shots, although most of MIT's attempts missed the target. Junior Stephanie Brenman stopped nine shots to record her sixth shutout victory of the season, while Smith keeper Lauren Bachtel made one save in the loss.
The Engineers finish the regular portion of their slate on Tuesday at Babson College. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 3 p.m.
