    Wellesley Pitching Stifles MIT Bats in Softball Sweep WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College pitchers Lauren Goldfarb and Sara Schwartzmeyer combined to surrender just three hits as the Blue softball team swept a doubleheader against New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival, MIT on Thursday afternoon. Goldfarb pitched a two-hit shutout in game one, as Wellesley won 8-0 in six innings, while Schwartzmeyer allowed just one hit in a 9-0, five inning victory in game two.

With the wins, the Pride is now 17-10 overall, 9-3 in NEWMAC play. Tech falls to 3-7 in the conference and 4-15 overall.

    Wheaton Rallies in Game Two to Stun MIT and Earn Sweep CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Wheaton College softball team used an eight-run rally in the sixth inning to come back from a 7-0 hole against MIT during the second game of a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Briggs Field. The Cardinal and Gray were unable to escape the sixth, as the Lyons (15-12, 6-6- NEWMAC) scored seven runs with two outs in the frame to secure the two-game sweep, after taking game one, 9-4. With the losses, the Tech falls to 4-13 and 3-5 in league play.

Jessica Iacobucci threw a pair of complete games, allowing just a pair of runs while striking out 13, to help the Cardinal and Gray improve to .500 in the NEWMAC at 3-3 (4-11 overall).

The Engineers dropped a pair of games, 10-4 and 12-3, to fall to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. The Beavers snapped a four-game skid to improve to .500 overall and in conference (9-9, 2-2).

    Softball Falls in Extra Innings, 8-6, to Simmons in Season Opener CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons College scored twice in the top of the ninth inning to hand host MIT an 8-6 defeat in non-conference softball action on Briggs Field Tuesday. The Engineers led for most of the afternoon but were unable to hold onto a 5-2 advantage, falling to 0-1 for the 2011 campaign. Bensey Schnip had three hits for Tech and knocked in a pair of runs while Jessica Iacobucci went the distance in her season debut.

    MIT Ranks Fourth Among All NCAA Institutions in 2010 NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings CHICAGO, Ill. – The National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) recently announced its eighth annual Collegiate Power Rankings. Following another tremendous year, the Engineers were listed fourth overall in securing their highest ranking in the history of the report. The NCSA Athletic Recruiting’s Collegiate Power Rankings assess the academic and athletics standards of all NCAA athletic programs across the country. The Power Rankings were developed to help prospective student athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I, II and III levels.

    Jennifer Williams Named Head Softball Coach at MIT CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Jennifer Williams has been named the new head softball coach at MIT as announced by Department Head and Director of Athletics Julie Soriero. Williams, who becomes the 10th head coach in program history, arrives in Cambridge after spending the past year as an assistant coach at Southern New Hampshire University.
