MIT Softball Cited for Academic Success

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT softball team was recognized recently by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for its academic success last season. The Engineers posted the third-highest cumulative grade point average among all Division III teams during the 2010-11 academic year and were fifth in the NCAA across all divisions.

The Cardinal and Gray recorded a 3.600 GPA as a team for the year. Northwestern College (Minn.) led all teams with a 3.694 mark.

The NFCA Academic Awards program honors both collegiate and high school teams for their submitted GPAs for the 2010-2011 academic year. As a second component of the program, all submitted student-athletes who achieved a 3.50 GPA during last academic year are named as a NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete. The individual honorees will be announced on Wednesday, October 5 on NFCA.org.
