MIT Softball Collects Additional Academic Recognition

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second time in as many weeks, the MIT softball team received accolades from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for its academic success during the 2011 season. Following its distinction for the third-highest team grade point average, six individuals were recognized as All-America Scholar Athletes.

Departed seniors, Maia Bageant (Roswell, Ga.), Keri Dixon (Bethlehem, Pa.) Jenny Li (Ellicott City, Md.) and Jessica Oleinik (Ellicott City, Md.) and were joined by rising juniors Anna Christensen (Vernon Hills, Ill.) and Leah Alpert (Needham, Mass.) as honorees.

The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2010-11 academic year. 

Last week, the Engineers were named an All-Academic team, after the squad posted a cumulative GPA of 3.60, the third highest mark in Division III and fifth best in the entire NCAA.
