CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In conjunction with its home doubleheader against WPI on Saturday, April 21, the MIT softball team will hold the program's inaugural alumnae day event. The event will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the softball program at MIT. Alumnae, parents and fans are invited to join us in Cambridge for this exciting occasion.
The day's festivities will include a ceremony, in between games of the doubleheader, recognizing those alumnae that were instrumental in the founding of the program. Friends of the program are also invited to a banquet on Saturday evening.
The weekend kicks off with a gathering at a local pub with the MIT coaching staff on Friday evening. Saturday morning starts with coffee and a campus tour prior to the first pitch of the doubleheader against WPI, which comes at 12:00 p.m. Following the games, a banquet will be held at the MIT Alumni Center to honor past and present members of the MIT softball program.
Head Coach Jennifer Williams expressed her enthusiasm for the event, "We are very excited to be organizing the program's first ever anniversary celebration, as well as MIT softball's first major alumnae event," she said. "We plan to make the weekend memorable for all alumnae and current players, and hope to share the progress and excitement of our team as we continue to prepare for higher levels of competition. We are looking forward to honoring the alumnae, and showing our appreciation for all they have brought to MIT softball."
MIT has partnered with the Hyatt Regency Cambridge to offer a special group rate to those alumnae who are traveling in from out of town. A group rate of $229 per night is available for Saturday evening and will be honored up to three days before or after the event, for those hoping to extend their stay in the Boston area.
