Fodor Selected to 2nd Team All-Conference; Williams Named NEWMAC Coach of the Year
BABSON PARK, Mass. – Sophomore Ellie Fodor (Trenton, Mich.) was selected to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) second team All-Conference, as announced by the conference on Tuesday morning. Fodor is the first MIT softball player since Leah Bogstead in 2006 to be named to the All-Conference team.
Head coach Jen Williams was named the NEWMAC Coach of the Year after leading the Engineers to their first post-season appearance in eight years. The Cardinal and Gray wrapped up their season over the weekend with a record of 19-13, the most wins they have had since 1984. The last MIT coach to earn this honor was Jean Heiney in 1992.
Fodor was one of only a small handful of MIT players who played and started all 33 games this season, being so versatile as to play a number of positions, including first base, third base and pitcher. At the mound, she had a record of 11-7 in 101.0 innings, allowing 99 hits and 43 runs, while striking out 114 batters. In the batter's box, she hit .247 with nine runs in 89 at-bats.
MIT ended the season with a conference record of 7-7, which placed them in fifth place out of the nine teams. Throughout the two month season, the Engineers accomplished a number of notable achievements: back in April, they defeated Babson College for the first time in ten years and, at their last regular-season double header against Brandeis, they walked away with two wins for the first time in eight years.
