WPI Defeats MIT, 5-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - Kristen Gervais registered a two-run triple and Shannon O'Connell added a two-run single as host WPI shutout MIT, 5-0, in a NEWMAC softball contest on Monday. The game was rescheduled from Friday, April 7 after rain postponed the second game of a doubleheader between the two teams.
Meghan Kelly and Jennifer Parker combined for the pitching shutout for WPI (18-6, 5-3 NEWMAC). Kelly, who tossed a two-hitter in WPI's 2-0 victory on Friday, scattered three hits while fanning five and collecting six assists. Parker yielded two hits while pitching the final two frames.
Nicole Magione hit her fourth homer of the season when she led off the bottom of the first inning with a long shot to leftfield. Kelly Head notched a pair of hits and scored a run for WPI while Jennifer Richards and Briana Dougherty both tallied a base hit and a run scored.
Leah Bogsted collected five strikeouts in the circle for MIT (3-13, 2-6 NEWMAC) while Kaitlyn McCartney belted a pair of base hits on the afternoon.
