Dill to Take Maternity Leave During 2012-13 Swimming Season, Pitter Named Acting Head Coach
CAMBRIEGE, Mass. – MIT Department Head and Director of Athletics Julie Soriero has announced that Dawn Dill, the Mary Francis Wagley, '47 Head Coach of the MIT men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, will be stepping aside from her coaching duties for the 2012-13 academic year to take maternity leave. Soriero named Samantha Pitter, MIT’s assistant head swimming and diving coach, as the acting head coach of the program during Dill’s leave. Dill will resume her coaching duties in the summer of 2013.

Women’s Swimming Posts Best Ever Placing at NCAAs With Eighth-Place Finish
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After starting the day in eighth-place in the team standings, the MIT women’s swimming and diving team had a solid outing on the final day of the 2012 NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, enabling the Engineers finish eighth in the meet. It was the best ever finish at the national meet for MIT, which had a previous best finish of 11th in 1990.

Women’s Swimming Moves Up at Nationals
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Starting the day in ninth-place, the MIT women’s swimming and diving team moved up a spot to eighth after today’s action at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The Engineers scored 30 points during the day to move their total to 98, just 16 points behind the College of New Jersey and Johns Hopkins University for sixth-place.

Ryan Sets School Mark at NCAA Championships, Engineers Ninth Overall
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Freshman Emily Ryan (Indianapolis, Ind.) broke her own school record in the 200 Freestyle, with the Engineers also turning in strong efforts in the 200 Free and 400 Medley Relays to highlight the second day of the NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. With 68 points MIT stands ninth in the overall team standings, just nine points out of seventh.

Ryan Leads Women’s Swim Team to Seventh After First Day of NCAA Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Freshman Emily Ryan (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished fifth in the 500 Free during the first day of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships being held this week in Indianapolis. Her finish helped MIT to 33 points after day one, good for seventh place overall.

Ten Engineers Qualify for NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After picking up their second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Swimming and Diving title two weeks ago, MIT’s No. 6 women’s swimming and diving squad saw 10 members of the team gain invitations to the NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships that will be held later this month. The Engineers qualified all five of their relays, as well as swimmers in several individual events.

NEWMAC Announces Winter Academic All-Conference Awards
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A league-leading 29 athletes represented MIT on the 2012 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Winter Academic All-Conference Team. Criteria includes a minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale, achieving second year academic status at his or her institution, and being a member of a varsity team for the entire season.

MIT Women Repeat as NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Champions
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was an impressive performance for the MIT women’s swimming and diving team as the Engineers led from the start on Friday and won their second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference swimming and diving title. Freshman Emily Ryan (Indianapolis, Ind.) won three individual events and was a part of a winning relay and was named the NEWMAC Women’s Rookie of the Year. MIT totaled 960 points to win its championship, with Springfield College coming in second with 821.5 points.

MIT Stays On Top After Day Two of NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On the second day of the 2012 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, MIT’s sixth-ranked women’s swimming and diving squad maintained its advantage over Springfield College as the Engineers won six of seven races. With the wins the Engineers pushed their advantage to 137 points, taking a 681-544 lead over the Pride going into tomorrow’s final day of competition.

MIT Holds Lead After Day One of NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT’s sixth-ranked women’s swimming and diving team turned in a solid performance on Day 1 of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships this evening. The host Engineers won three events, including a pair of relays, that enabled MIT to build a 323-256 edge over Springfield College entering tomorrow’s second day of competition.

MIT Hosts NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships This Weekend
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It will be a busy in the Zesiger Center pool on the MIT campus this weekend as the Institute hosts the 2012 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The No. 4 ranked men’s team and the No. 6 women’s team will both be defending championships won in 2011, with the men’s squad gunning for its fourth straight title.

NORTON, Mass. – In the last meet of the regular season the No. 6 MIT women’s swimming and diving team came up with nine wins at the Wheaton Invitational today. Junior Anna Kokensparger (Omaha, Neb.) picked up three individual victories to lead the way for the Engineers.

Kokensparger, Ubellacker Named NEWMAC Swimmers of the Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second time this season juniors Anna Kokensparger (Omaha, Neb.) and Wyatt Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.) were named the women's and men's Swimmers of the Week, respectively, by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The duo led their respective teams to victories over Amherst College in dual meet action in the Zesiger Center Pool on Saturday.

Dramatic Final Relay Win Lifts No. 6 MIT past Amherst in Women’s Swimming
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The top-10 battle between No. 6 MIT and No. 7 Amherst lived up to its billing this afternoon at the Zesiger Center on the MIT campus. With a dramatic victory in the final event, the 400 Free Relay, MIT came out on top by a score of 153-144. With the victory, MIT improved its dual meet record to 8-0 this season.

Women’s Swimming Edges Tufts In Top-20 Battle
MEDFORD, Mass. – In a matchup of Top-20 teams it was the No. 6 MIT women’s swimming and diving squad that came out on top as it defeated No. 18 Tufts by a final margin of 217.5-158.5. Three different Engineers won three events each to lead MIT to the win as it improved to 7-0 in dual meets this season.

Women’s Swimming Picks Up Pair of Road Wins
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – After hosing a dual meet on Saturday, the MIT women’s swimming and diving squad was at it again on Sunday as it traveled to Springfield College to take on Springfield and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. When things were finished it was another pair of victories for the Engineers, with MIT taking down Springfield, 196-104, and defeating Coast Guard, 233-61.

Women’s Swimming Cruises Past Colby
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT women’s swimming and diving team was back in the pool for its first dual meet of 2012 this afternoon against Colby College in the Zesiger Center Pool. The Engineers had no problems with the Mules as they won every event but one to take a 237-57 win.

Women’s Swimming Second at Bradenton Invitational
Taking part in a four-event meet that was held in a 50-meter pool and scored using an invitational format, the MIT women’s swimming team took on a squad from the State University of New York at New Paltz as part of its winter training trip in Florida on Wednesday. When the final numbers were calculated the Engineers finished second to the Hawks by a 211-109 score.

MIT Swimming & Diving Programs Ranked In Top-10
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A strong start to their respective seasons has MIT’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams ranked in the top-10 in the latest Division III poll released by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America this week. The men’s squad was ranked No. 4, while the women’s team came in at No. 6 in the national rankings.

Rogers Selected as NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Christy Rogers (Bend, Ore.) became the second MIT women’s swimmer to earn New England Women’s and Men’s Conference Swimmer of the Week honors the conference announced today. Rogers was selected after her impressive performance this past weekend at the MIT Winter Invitational that included setting three school records.

MIT Impressive at MIT Winter Invitational
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After some time away from home the MIT swimming and diving teams returned to the Zesiger Center pool this weekend, hosting the MIT Winter Invitational. The Engineers turned in some impressive performances in their home pool as three school records were broken and numerous NCAA cuts were achieved. The men’s team tallied 15 wins in the 18 swimming events, while the women’s squad was victorious 16 times.

Kokensparger and Ubellacker Sweep NEWMAC Swimming Weekly Honors
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Juniors Anna Kokensparger (Omaha, Neb.) and Wyatt Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.) were named the women’s and men’s Swimmers of the Week, respectively, by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Kokensparger helped lead the Cardinal and Gray to victories over Wellesley College, Babson College and Bowdoin College last week while Ubellacker and the MIT men downed Babson and Bowdoin on Saturday.

MIT Swimming and Diving Picks up Wins in Maine
BRUNSWICK, Maine – Both MIT swimming and diving squads ventured north to Bowdoin College today for a dual meet against the host Polar Bears and NEWMAC foe Babson College. The trip proved to be a successful one as both of the Engineers’ teams picked up a pair of wins. The men’s squad came away with 222-76 win over Bowdoin and a 235-53 victory over Babson. On the women’s side MIT came away with a 212-87 decision over Bowdoin and a 244-48 win over Babson.

Women’s Swimming Defeats Wellesley
WELESLEY, Mass. – In the first dual meet outing of the season for the MIT women’s swimming and diving team, the Engineers won 10 of 16 events, including both relays, to defeat Wellesley College by a 187-113 score. MIT is now 1-0 for the 2011-12 season, while Wellesley suffered its first defeat of the year and fell to 2-1.

MIT Swimmers to Participate in 2011 Ted Mullin “Hour of Power” Relay for Sarcoma Research
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It is nearly impossible to find anyone whose life has not been touched by cancer, whether it is through a friend, family member, or even a teammate. The swimmers at MIT have found one more way to fight back: the sixth annual Ted Mullin “Leave It in the Pool” Hour of Power Relay for Sarcoma Research, sponsored by the Carleton College swimming and diving teams. The Engineers will participate in the event on November 9.

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. – It was an impressive showing for the MIT men’s and women’s swimming teams at the New England Invitational on Saturday. The Engineers showed impressive team depth at the meet, winning all but three individual events on the men’s side and all but three individual and one relay on the women’s side.

Swimming and Diving Open Strong at Batterman Relays
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A pair of school records and a number of event records fell this afternoon when the MIT swimming and diving teams opened the 2011-12 season by hosting the Charlie Batterman Relays. The Engineers won every race that was held, with Junior Anna Kokensparger (Omaha, Neb.) and junior Brendan Deveney (Newtown, Conn.) each breaking school marks in the 100 IM.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Action in the Zesiger Center Pool will be heating up this coming weekend when the MIT men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams begin their 2011-12 seasons. The teams will start things off by hosting the annual Charlie Batterman Relays on Saturday, October 22 starting at 1:00 p.m.

MIT’s Li Completes English Channel Swim
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A member of MIT’s women’s swimming and diving team placed her name on an exclusive list when senior Qing Li (Shoreham, N.Y.) successfully completed a swim across the English Channel. Li is one of over 1,200 swimmers who have successfully made the swim. Li’s teammate, senior Sydney Giblin (Williamsburg, Va.) also made the crossing attempt, but was forced out of the water by strong winds and currents after completing 20 miles in 12 hours.
