CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After picking up their second straight New England Women's and Men's Swimming and Diving title two weeks ago, MIT's No. 6 women's swimming and diving squad saw 10 members of the team gain invitations to the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships that will be held later this month. The Engineers qualified all five of their relays, as well as swimmers in several individual events.
After earning Rookie of the Year honors at the NEWMAC Championships, freshman Emily Ryan (Indianapolis, Ind.) will be returning to her hometown as a qualifier in three individual events. She earned invites in the 200, 500 and 1650 Free events after winning the 500 and 1650 races in school record times at the NEWMAC meet. Junior Anna Kokensparger (Omaha, Neb.) joins Ryan as a three-event individual qualifier, garnering invites in the 100 Free, 200 IM and 100 Fly.
Sophomore Katelyn Rossick (Middletown, Md.) also was invited to three individual events, the 200 and 400 IMs along with the 200 Back. Another three individual event qualifier was sophomore Christy Rogers (Bend, Ore.) who earned the selection in the 50 and 100 Free races as well as the 200 Back.
Getting the nod in a pair of individual events was sophomore Calley Murphy (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) who will take part in the 100 and 200 Breast events after winning both at the NEWMAC Championships. Freshman Eann Tuan (Richardson, Texas) will swim in one individual event for the Engineers, the 100 Back.
With the 200, 400 and 800 Free relays, as well as the 200 and 400 Medley relays all qualifying, several other members of the team will compete as parts of those teams. Senior Amy Jacobi (Cranbury, N.J.), junior Elina Hu (Oshkosh, Wis.) and freshmen Michelle Cunningham (Wayland, Mass.) and Nicole Ozminkowski (Saline, Mich.) will all participate in the national championships as members of at least one of the relays.
MIT, which finished 15th as a team at the NCAA Championships a year ago, will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana this year for the finals, which will be held March 21-24 at the IU Natatorium.
