AMHERST, Mass. - Junior Doria Holbrook's three-meter diving score of 306.83 broke Amherst's pool record, but it served only as consolation, as MIT fell to non-conference foe Amherst College, 136-98, on Saturday afternoon. The Yakima, Wash., native also impressed in the one-meter diving competition, picking up the victory with an NCAA "B" cut score of 275.25.
The loss dropped Tech's record to 8-2 on the season and served as the Engineers' final dual meet of the campaign. Amherst improved to 7-0 with the triumph.
The combination of sophomores Meaghan Stern and Mary Marvel and junior Brittany Sasser led the way for the Lord Jeffs' balanced attack. Each picked up two victories, with Marvel notching both of hers in individual events.
MIT will return to the pool on Friday, Feb. 2, when it hosts Northeastern University, Middlebury College, Tufts University, Wheaton College and Williams College in the MIT Invitational. The two-day competition will serve as a tune up for the Engineers as they head into the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Championships later in February. Amherst will conclude its dual meet schedule on Saturday, Feb. 3, when it travels to Springfield College at 1:00 p.m.
