MIT Stays Undefeated Behind Relay Heroics
Nov. 19, 2005
BRUNSWICK, Maine - A strong anchor by Jackee Nowickee in the 200 free relay led MIT to a narrow victory over Bowdoin College in the final event of Saturday's three-way dual. MIT edged the Bears, 152-139, thanks to the relay victory, while the Engineers also defeated Babson, 196-83, to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The 200 free relay was dead even after two legs, and Stephanie Sidelko swam a solid third to set up Nowickee for the final lap. All four swimmers for the Tech unit swam 25-point, while their end clip of 1:41.97 was nearly one second of Bowdoin's second-place finish (1:42.71).
Despite competing without several of its key swimmers, MIT stayed undefeated in the 400 medley relay with another strong finish. Freshman Nicole O'Keeffe shined for the Engineers in the third dual meet of her collegiate career, winning three individual events. O'Keeffe won both the 1000 and 500 free events, while also picking up critical points with a great win in the 200 IM (2:17.32).
Doria Holbrook won both boards for the third straight week, and rookie Jen Chao swept the backstroke events. Sasha Brophy also secured a major win for the Engineers with a come-from-behind victory in the 100 free (54.85).
