Women’s Tennis Gets Back in Action with Victory

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women's tennis team got back into action on Saturday afternoon and does not seem to have lost a step. The Engineers swept the New York University Violets 9-0 at JB Carr Tennis Bubble.

NEWMAC player of the year Lauren Quisenberry beat Elizabeth Stachtiari 6-1, 6-4 at first singles and won over Stachtiaris and Ariel Sultan 8-2 at first doubles, where she now is paired with Candace Wu.

Sultan was defeated by Julia Hsu 6-4, 6-2 at third singles, while Wu won her second singles match by a pair of 6-2 sets. Hsu and Bianca Dumitrascu beat Liz Feldman and Lisa Mijovic 8-4 at second doubles, while the pair of Melissa Diskin and Katie O'Neal had no trouble winning their third doubles match by a clean 8-0 sweep.

Dumitrascu also beat Mijovic in the fourth singles slot (6-3, 6-4). O'Neal and Diskin also beat their doubles opponents in singles play. O'Neal beat Ramya Pokala 7-6, 6-4 at fifth singles, while Diskin took care of Sara Joo 6-0, 6-4.

MIT improved their record to 7-4 on the season. They will play March 12th at Colby College before preparing for a spring break trip to Los Angeles, California. The Violets drop to 0-3 on the season and will return to action on March 25th at The College of New Jersey.
