Women’s Tennis Announces 2012-13 Freshman; Class Ranked in Top-10
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A highly regarded group of incoming freshmen will be added to the roster of the MIT women’s tennis program for the 2012-13 season head coach Carol Matsuzaki has announced. The incoming class of seven student-athletes has been ranked the sixth-best group of freshman in the nation at the Division III level. The Engineers finished the 2011-12 season with an 11-8 overall record and were tied for 30th with the University of California at Santa Cruz in the final national rankings.

Four MIT Student-Athletes Receive Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Honors
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Juniors Molly McShane (Lake Bluff, Ill.), Wyatt Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.), and Matt Hohenberger (St. Louis, Mo.) along with senior Anastasia Vishnevetsky (Orange, Conn.) were named to the Capital One Academic All-America at-large team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Tuesday. McShane was voted to the first team, Ubellacker and Hohenberger earned spots on the second team, while Vishnevetsky rounded out the honorees with a selection to the third team. MIT’s four awards is the second-highest tally among Division III programs this year and tied for the second most in Institute history. The Engineers are the all-time Division III leader in producing Academic All-Americas and ranks third across all NCAA divisions with 184 honorees.

MIT Places Five on Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Team
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seniors Columbus Leonard (Mill Valley, Calif.) and Anastasia Vishnevetsky (Orange, Conn.) along with juniors Matt Hohenberger (St. Louis, Mo.), Wyatt Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.), and Molly McShane (Lake Bluff, Ill.) were selected to the Capital One Academic All-District at-large team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. The five student-athletes will represent MIT on the national ballot and will vie for Academic All-America honors to be voted on later this month.

Vishnevetsky Selected for Regional Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Anastasia Vishnevetsky (Orange, Conn.) of the MIT women’s tennis team was named to a prestigious post season honor when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its regional award winners recently. She was selected as the Northeast Region’s Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner. She is the third MIT women’s tennis player to be named to the honor.

Women’s Tennis Upsets No. 17 Skidmore
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – It was the best possible way to close out the regular season for the MIT women’s tennis squad on Sunday as the Engineers scored a 5-4 upset win over No. 17 Skidmore College on the road. MIT came back from losing two of three in doubles play to score the upset, with Anastasia Vishnevetsky (Orange, Conn.) clinching the victory with a three-set win at No. 1 singles.

Women’s Tennis Falls at Vassar
POUGHKEPSIE, N.Y. – Playing on the road for the final weekend of the season, the MIT women’s tennis team traveled to New York; with its first stop Vassar College. In the end the No. 27 Brewers prevailed by a final of 7-2, with the Engineers claiming one doubles and one singles match for their points.

Brandeis Scores 6-3 Win Over Women’s Tennis
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brandeis University used a strong singles performance to come back from an early deficit to score a 6-3 win over MIT in women’s tennis action. Sophomore Julia Hsu (Knoxville, Tenn.) was a winner in both singles and doubles play to lead the Engineers.

MIT Rolls Past Simmons
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was senior day for the MIT women’s tennis team today and the Engineers marked the occasion with a convincing 9-0 win over visiting Simmons College. One of MIT’s seniors, Anastasia Vishnevetsky (Orange, Conn.) won both her singles and doubles matches for the Engineers. Hillary Jenny (Green Bay, Wis.) and Alexandria Hall (Hemet, Calif.) were the other MIT seniors honored before the match.

MIT Defeats Puerto Rico Mayaguez, 6-3
WELLESLEY, Mass. – MIT closed out its weekend of play at the Nor’Easter Bowl on a high note, taking its final match in the event against a squad from the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez by a final of 6-3. After taking two of the three doubles matches the Engineers won the top three flights in singles play to clinch the victory.

Women’s Tennis Edged by Bates
WELLESLEY, Mass. – It was a close one today at the Nor’Easter Bowl for the MIT women’s tennis team. Taking on Bates College it came down to a deciding third set in the No. 1 singles match. It was Bates that came up with the key victory and the win in the match, taking a hard-fought, 5-4 win over the Engineers.

Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 12 Tufts
WALTHAM, Mass. – Playing for the first time in three weeks, MIT’s women’s tennis team took on 12th-ranked Tufts University in the opening match of the Nor’Easter Bowl Tournament. The match, which was played at Brandeis University, went to the Jumbos by an 8-1 score.

Bates Upends MIT, 6-3, In Women’s Tennis
LEWISTON, Maine – A couple of hard fought, three set matches in singles play that did not go MIT’s way proved to be the difference today as Bates College upended the No. 22 Engineers by a final of 6-3 in women’s tennis. It was the first loss of the spring season for MIT, which fell to 8-4. Senior Anastasia Vishnevetsky (Orange, Conn.) led MIT with wins in both doubles and singles play.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was a strong start to the spring season for the MIT women’s tennis team today as the Engineers scored an 8-1 win over Colby College. MIT started with three wins in doubles play that was the springboard to the victory.

NEWMAC Announces Fall Academic All-Conference Awards
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A league-leading 45 athletes represented MIT on the 2011 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Fall Academic All-Conference Team. Criteria includes a minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale, achieving second year academic status at his or her institution, and being a member of a varsity team for the entire season.

Six Engineers Collect NEWMAC Women’s Tennis All-Conference Honors

MIT Falls In NEWMAC Finals, 5-1
BABSON PARK, Mass. – MIT picked up a point in doubles play, but could not come up with any victories in singles action as the Engineers fell to Wellesley College, 5-1, in the championship match of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis Tournament at Babson’s Farwell Courts on Sunday afternoon. The loss closes out the fall portion of the team’s schedule and dropped MIT’s overall record to 7-3 for the season.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Anastasia Vishnevetsky (Orange, Conn.) strong showing at the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament this past weekend has earned her the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Singles Player of the Week award. It is her first conference honor of the season and the team’s third.

Women’s Tennis Competes at NEWITT Tournament
AMHERST, Mass. – After clinching the No. 2 seed for the NEWMAC Championship last week, the No. 22 MIT women’s tennis team tuned up for the conference tournament with an appearance at the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament over the weekend at Amherst College. In a format that saw the MIT squad split into four smaller teams, the Engineers advanced two of their teams to the Round of 16.

The Engineers earned the second seed in the tournament after finishing conference play with a 6-1 record after defeating defending NEWMAC champion Wheaton College yesterday.

Women’s Tennis Finishes NEWMAC Play With Win at Wheaton
NORTON, Mass. – MIT’s women’s tennis team finished off a fine NWMAC conference season today as the No. 22 Engineers took a 6-3 win at Wheaton College. MIT picked up key wins in all three doubles matches as it ran its record to 6-2 overall and 6-1 in the NEMAC. Wheaton saw its record slip to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

MIT Powers Past Springfield
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A strong singles performance that saw the No. 22 MIT women’s tennis team take five matches in straight sets was the key to the Engineers 8-1 victory over Springfield College this afternoon. MIT improved to 5-2 on the season, 5-1 in the NEWMAC, while Springfield fell to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a battle of the two remaining undefeated women's tennis teams in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference standings, No. 22 MIT and No. 24 Wellesley College duked it out inside the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble this evening. When all was said and done the Blue rode the strength of three wins each in doubles and singles play to score the 6-3 victory.

Women’s Tennis Sweeps Weekly NEWMAC Awards
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomores Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Julia Hsu (Knoxville, Tenn.) combined to register a sweep of the weekly New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s tennis awards the league announced today. Quisenberry was named the NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week while Hsu teamed with Quisenberry to earn Doubles Team of the Week honors.

MIT Has Solid Showing at ITA Regional
Lewiston, Maine – Sophomore Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas) turned in a strong performance at the ITA New England Regional Women’s Tennis Championships this weekend. She advanced to the quarterfinal round before getting bumped from the bracket in a three-set match. Quisenberry was one of five players representing MIT at the prestigious tournament.

In a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s tennis match between a pair of teams yet to lose a conference contest, it was MIT that came out on top with a 9-0 win over Babson College. The Engineers improved to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Beavers suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 7-1 and 3-1 in the NEWMAC.

Women’s Tennis Downs Mount Holyoke, 6-3
South Hadley, Mass. – MIT’s women’s tennis team remained perfect in NEWMAC conference play this afternoon as the Engineers picked up a 6-3 win at Mount Holyoke College. The win improved MIT’s record to 3-1, 3-0 in the NEWMAC, while Mount Holyoke fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.

MIT Falls To Tufts In Battle of Ranked Teams
Cambridge, Mass. – In an early season battle of ranked women’s tennis opponents, it was No. 5 Tufts that came out on top over No. 22 MIT at the J.B. Carr Indoor Tennis Facility, as the Jumbos took a 7-2 decision over the Engineers. It was the first win of the season for Tufts (1-1), and the first loss for MIT (2-1, 2-0 NEWMAC).

Northampton, Mass. – It was a strong start to the 2011-12 season for the #22 MIT women’s tennis team today as the Engineers swept past Smith College by a 9-0 score in NEWMAC Conference action. The Engineers dropped just one set during the match to the Pioneers in the first contest of the season for both squads.

MIT Women’s Tennis Opens Season Sept. 10
Cambridge, Mass. – MIT’s women’s tennis team will begin its 2011-12 season on September 10 when it travels to Smith College for a match that will also begin NEWMAC Conference play for the Engineers, who finished the 2010-11 season ranked No. 22 in Division III. It will begin a fall season for MIT that includes a full slate of NEWMAC matches as well as the Conference Championships in October.

MIT Tennis Teams Earns Academic Honors From ITA
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT’s men’s and women’s tennis teams both earned All-Academic Team honors the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced. It marks the third straight year that MIT was the only New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) school to have both men’s and women’s tennis earn the distinction.
