Women’s Tennis Downs Vassar, 8-1
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – MIT’s 13th-ranked women’s tennis team completed a quick two-day trip on a successful note today when the Engineers defeated No. 29 Vassar College, 8-1. Sophomore Victoria Tam (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) and freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) teamed for a doubles win and also scored singles victories to lead MIT to the victory.

No. 1 Williams Women’s Tennis Team Upends MIT
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Taking on its second straight opponent ranked in the top five in the nation, the No. 13 MIT women’s tennis team took on No. 1 Williams this afternoon on the road. The Ephs did not allow the Engineers a point, blanking them by a final of 9-0.

Women’s Tennis Falls In Nor’easter Bowl Finals
WALTHAM, Mass. – Playing in the finals of the annual Nor’easter Bowl Tournament, the No. 17 MIT women’s tennis faced off against fourth-ranked Amherst College this morning on the courts at Brandeis University. It was the second meeting between the two squads this spring, and the result was the same as the before with the Jeffs taking a 9-0 win.

No. 17 MIT Upends No. 14 Trinity
WALTHAM, Mass. – Playing in a semifinal of the 2014 Nor‘Easter Bowl, the 17th ranked MIT women’s tennis team moved on to the tomorrow’s final as the Engineers upset No. 14 Trinity College, 7-2. Freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) clinched the win for the Engineers when she won the No. 1 singles match in straight sets.

Engineers Blanks Bates
WALTHAM, Mass. – In the opening match of the 2014 Nor‘Easter Bowl, the 17th ranked MIT women’s tennis team took all the points that were available as the Engineers blanked 30th ranked Bates College, 9-0. The win snapped a two-match losing streak by the Engineers, who improved to 12-2.

Women’s Tennis Falls at Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Playing a top-10 team for the second time in a week, the MIT women’s tennis team travelled to Middlebury College today for a non-conference match between nationally ranked teams. After a close battle in doubles, the No. 6 Panthers won five of the six singles matches to claim a 7-2 win over the No. 17 Engineers.

MIT Falls to Amherst In Battle of Ranked Teams
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its first outing of the spring season, the MIT women’s tennis team, ranked No. 17 in the country, faced off against another nationally ranked team, No. 4 Amherst College. The Engineers gave the Lord Jeffs a battle in a number of matches but could not come up with a win in any of them in a 9-0 loss.

NEWMAC Announces Fall Academic All-Conference Awards
BOSTON, Mass. – A league-leading 62 athletes represented MIT on the 2013 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Fall Academic All-Conference Team. Criteria includes a minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale, achieving second year academic status at his or her institution, and being a member of a varsity team for the entire season.

Women’s Tennis Ranked In Top-20
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – An unblemished fall season for the MIT women’s tennis team as vaulted the Engineers into the top-20 in the first NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Poll of the 2013-14 season releases by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). MIT, which won its second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship and went 11-0 in the fall season is ranked No. 17 in the poll, a jump of six places from the Engineers’ No. 23 finish in last season’s poll.

Eight MIT Women’s Tennis Players Earn All-NEWMAC Honors
BOSTON, Mass. – After winning its second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Sunday, the MIT women’s tennis team was well represented on the 2013 all-conference teams released by the league today. The Engineers swept all but one of the first team awards while also seeing freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) getting the Rookie of the Year award.

MIT Captures Second Consecutive NEWMAC Women’s Tennis Title
WELLESLEY, Mass. – MIT successfully defended its New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s tennis title this afternoon as the top seeded Engineers defeated No. 2 seed and tournament host, Wellesley College, 5-1, to win the championship. It was the fifth overall NEWMAC title for the program. Sophomore Victoria Tam (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) went 3-0 during the two-day tournament and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

MIT Moves to NEWMAC Women’s Tennis Finals with 5-0 Win Over Babson
WELLESLEY, Mass. – Top-seeded MIT will move on to defend its New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s tennis title, as the Engineers downed No. 4 seed Babson College, 5-0, in a semifinal of the conference tournament today. Sophomore Victoria Tam (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) scored the deciding point in the match with her victory in the No. 3 singles match. MIT will play the winner of the second semifinal match between No. 2 Wellesley College and No. 3 Wheaton College tomorrow for the conference championship.

BOSTON, Mass. – MIT women’s tennis picked up weekly conference honors for a third straight week today when the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its weekly women’s tennis awards today. Sophomores Alana Peters (Kenilworth, Ill.) and Ava Soleimany (Newport Beach, Calif.) were selected as the Doubles Team of the Week for their play at the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tournament this weekend.

Women’s Tennis Has Solid Showing at NEWITT
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – After claiming the 2013 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season championship, the MIT women’s tennis team took a break from dual match play with a weekend of action at the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tournament this weekend. The Engineers had one team make it to the semifinals of their bracket, with the duo of sophomores Alana Peters (Kenilworth, Ill.) and Ava Soleimany (Newport Beach, Calif.) reaching the semis of the B Flight bracket.

MIT Blanks Smith, 9-0
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the fifth time this season the MIT women’s tennis team did not allow its opponent a point as the Engineers defeated Smith College, 9-0, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference match. Sophomore Alana Peters (Kenilworth, Ill.) picked up the victory in the No. 6 singles match that gave the Engineers their ninth straight victory.

MIT Upends Tufts, 8-1
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its first non-conference dual match of the season, the MIT women’s tennis team hosted local rival Tufts University and came away with an 8-1 victory. The win broke a 16-match losing streak to the Jumbos and was the first victory by the Engineers since the 1996-97 season.

BOSTON, Mass. – For a second straight week the MIT women’s tennis team has swept the weekly New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference awards the league announced today. Freshman Krystal Lai (Irvine, Calif.) who also earned doubles honors last week, was named the Singles Player of the Week, while the Engineers’ doubles team of sophomore Victoria Tam (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) and freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) earned Doubles Team of the Week accolades.

NORTON, Mass. – It was another successful venture on the road for the MIT women’s tennis team as it defeated New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference foe Wheaton College by a final of 8-1. With the win the Engineers remain undefeated and clinched the regular season conference title for a second straight year.

Women’s Tennis Blanks Clark, 9-0
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Moving back to dual match action after playing last weekend at the ITA New England Regional Championships, the MIT women’s tennis team returned to New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference play with a contest against Clark University. The Engineers maintained their perfect dual match record so far this season, scoring a 9-0 win against the Cougars. Junior Vynnie Kong (Cupertino, Calif.) came up with the match-clinching victory for MIT in the No. 3 singles contest.

Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Successful Appearance At Regional Championships
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – It was a successful trip to the 2013 USTA/ITA New England Regional Championships for the MIT women’s tennis team. The Engineers sent a record seven players to the tournament hosted by Williams College and came away with some impressive results, including senior Lauren Quisenberry’s (Corpus Christi, Texas) second trip to the tournament’s Round of 16 in as many years.

BABSON PARK, Mass. – In a battle of two teams that had gone a combined 6-0 in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play, the MIT women’s tennis team came out on top against Babson College as the Engineers took a 7-1 decision. Freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) won in both her singles and doubles matches, with the singles victory providing the deciding point for MIT (5-0, 5-0 NEWMAC).

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Playing on the road for the second time in its last three matches, the MIT women’s tennis team kept its record perfect for the 2013-14 season as it took a 9-0 decision from Mount Holyoke College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match. Junior Vynnie Kong (Cupertino, Calif.) won in straight sets in singles play to clinch the win for the Engineers as they improved to 4-0.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Playing conference matches on back-to-back days, the MIT women’s tennis team completed a weekend sweep of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference contests with a 9-0 win over Springfield College this afternoon. Senior Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas) clinched the victory for the Engineers with a straight sets win in her No. 1 singles match.

Sophomore Victoria Tam (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) and freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) each won in singles and doubles for the Engineers.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT started defense of its 2012 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s tennis title with a strong start to the 2013 this afternoon. The Engineers pitched a 9-0 shutout at NEWMAC newcomer, Emerson College, in the opener for both squads.

MIT Women’s Tennis Preseason Favorites in the NEWMAC
BOSTON, Mass. – After winning the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title last season, the MIT women’s tennis team has been picked to repeat as champions in 2013 in the league’s preseason poll released today. The Engineers were a unanimous choice to repeat, getting all nine first-place votes in the poll of the league’s head coaches.

MIT Tennis Players Named All-Americans by ITA
SKILLMAN, N.J. – A pair of MIT tennis players were named All-Americans yesterday when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2013 All-America Teams for Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division III Tennis. The Engineers had one player each from their men’s and women’s teams earn the honor. Senior Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas) earned her second career All-America distinction while senior Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) was named for the first time.

Women’s Tennis Earns Academic Honors from ITA
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women’s tennis team was recognized for its success in the classroom last season when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its academic award winners for 2012-13. The Engineers were recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team and had 10 individuals named as ITA Scholar Athletes.

Women’s Tennis 2013-14 Freshman Class Ranked No. 5 In The Nation
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For a second straight year the MIT women’s tennis program has seen its incoming freshman class of student-athletes ranked among the top-10 freshman classes in the nation. The class of 2017 is ranked No. 5 in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net, a step up of one spot from last season’s class ranking of No. 6.
