BOSTON, Mass. – MIT women's tennis picked up weekly conference honors for a third straight week today when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its weekly women's tennis awards today. Sophomores Alana Peters (Kenilworth, Ill.) and Ava Soleimany (Newport Beach, Calif.) were selected as the Doubles Team of the Week for their play at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tournament this weekend.
In a tournament that includes a format in which each round pairs teams of two against one another and features two singles matches and one doubles match, Peters and Soleimany formed MIT's No. 4 team and was the only pair from a NEWMAC school to reach the semifinals in either the A or the B draw. The Engineers' pair opened with an 8-5 victory over a team from NEWMAC foe Babson. They continued with an 8-6 decision in their match against a team from Roger Williams before a team from Tufts defaulted to them. In the semifinals, they lost to an Amherst team 8-3 to give them a 3-1 record in the tournament.
