Women’s Tennis Ranked In Top-20
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – An unblemished fall season for the MIT women's tennis team as vaulted the Engineers into the top-20 in the first NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Poll of the 2013-14 season releases by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). MIT, which won its second straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship and went 11-0 in the fall season is ranked No. 17 in the poll, a jump of six places from the Engineers' No. 23 finish in last season's poll.
In addition to the national ranking, MIT was ranked No. 5 in the Northeast Region, one of the most competitive regions in the nation. A pair of Engineers are ranked among the top-25 singles players in the region, with senior Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christy, Texas) ranked No. 7 and freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) who was named the NEWMAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year last week, ranked No. 13. Quisenberry finished the fall with a 5-1 record at No. 1 and 7-2 overall, while Kohrs finished 13-2 overall and 7-0 as the No. 2 player for the Engineers.
Quisenberry was also among the players ranked in doubles play in the region as she teamed with fellow senior Julia Hsu (Knoxville, Tenn.) to go 7-3 as MIT's No. 1 doubles team, and 9-4 overall, to earn a No. 8 ranking.
With the fall portion of its schedule complete, MIT will return to action on the courts next March as it opens play in the spring portion of its 2012-13 schedule.
