Indianapolis, Ind. (May 8) -- The No. 22 ranked MIT women's tennis team, by virtue of capturing the 2016 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, has earned a berth in the 2017 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Engineers will travel to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine for the regional that will take place on May 12-14. Match times will be available on Tuesday afternoon.
In the first round, the Engineers will face Gwynedd Mercy from the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), who earned the automatic qualifier with a 5-4 win over Marywood University in the fall. This marks the first all-time meeting between the Engineers and the Griffins as MIT makes its seventh all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Gwynedd Mercy is familiar with the NCAA Tournament as well as this marked their fourth straight CSAC Tournament crown.
The Engineers enter the NCAA tournament following a string of 10 matches against nationally-ranked programs, including seven top-10 opponents that included the No. 1 team in the country.

The finals of the 2017 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship will be held at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. and will be hosted by The University of the South.
