Women's Tennis Dominates Smith

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over NEWMAC foe Smith College in its first match of the season on Saturday. Jusleen Karve did not drop a game against the Pioneers (0-1), winning at the No. 6 singles position and the No. 3 doubles spot with Lisa Shank.

Joanna MacKay and Elaine Ni teamed up for an 8-2 victory over Francesca Albreezi and Seiko Fujii at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 position, Mariah Hoover and Serena Lin shutout Vida Chen and Catherine Lydecker, 8-0.

In singles play, Lin once again was victorious against Lydecker, emerging with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 1 slot. Ni overpowered Fujii, 6-0, 6-0, while Hoover recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Albrezzi. In her collegiate debut, Yi Wang posted a 6-0, 6-1 win against Andrea Dreskin in the No. 4 position. Jill Konowich closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jennifer Cheon.

In exhibition play, Konowich and Wang combined forces for an 8-1 win in doubles action. MacKay posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Chen at the seventh position while Shank blanked Sager, 6-0. Karina Pikhart defeated Jackson, 6-4, 6-2, in the last exhibition match.
