MIT Upends Mount Holyoke to Remain Undefeated

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – MIT breezed to an 8-1 triumph over Mount Holyoke College Saturday afternoon in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at the Mount Holyoke Tennis Courts. The Engineers (3-0, 2-0 NEWMAC) won all six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests to secure their eighth straight victory over the Lyons (1-2, 0-2 NEWMAC).

MIT’s first point of the day came from its No. 1 doubles duo of Leslie Hansen and Anastasia Vishnevetsky, who blanked Ashley Fallon and Elise, 8-0. The Engineers’ pairing of Karina Pikhart and Yi Wang added to the win total by edging out Natalie Hsiang and Heather Richardson, 8-6, in the No. 3 position. Mount Holyoke’s lone point of the afternoon came from its No. 2 tandem of Beatrix Hartmann and Sarah London, who downed Melissa Diskin and Anisa McCree by an 8-5 margin.

All six of MIT’s singles wins came in straight sets. Hansen and Vishnevetsky cruised to matching 6-1, 6-0 triumphs at the first and second slots, respectively. Meanwhile, Diskin narrowly defeated Hsiang 7-5, 7-5 in the third singles matchup. Yang downed London 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth slot, while McCree and Alex Hall both earned 6-1, 6-4 wins in their matches.

In exhibition play, Hall and Jen Rees made quick work of their foe, posting an 8-2 decision as Kerry Weinberg and Jenny Dohlman rallied for a 9-8 (7) win in the other doubles match. Pikhart recorded a 6-0, 6-4 singles victory while Jen Rees defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-4. Hillary Jenny held on for a 6-1, 7-6 win as Katie Smyth fell, 7-5, 6-0. Kimee Boonbanjerdsri wrapped up the day with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
