MIT Sends Four to ITA New England Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - This past weekend, Mariah Hoover, Leslie Hansen, Yi Wang, and Joanna MacKay represented MIT at the Division III Wilson/ITA Women's New England Championship. Hoover and Wang, along with Hansen and MacKay, teamed up for the Engineers in the doubles bracket.

Hoover opened the tournament with 6-4, 6-4 wins over Lindsay Ruslander (Trinity College) and Krista Romita (Vassar College) before falling to No. 1 seed Beret Remak (Connecticut College), 6-0, 6-0 in the round of 16. Hansen defeated Sarah Gould (Trinity College), 6-3, 6-0, but then lost to the eventual finalist, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8. Wang lost her first match of the day, 6-3, 5-7, 10-7, and then fell in her consolation match, 7-6 (4), 6-3.

In doubles play, Hansen and MacKay recorded an 8-2 victory, but then lost to the eventual champion, 8-1. Hoover and Wang lost their opener, 8-2, and their consolation match, 8-5.
