MIT Falls to Wellesley, 7-2

Sept. 15, 2004

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Wellesley College defeated MIT, 7-2, for the first time in three years on Tuesday afternoon. Despite the outcome, head coach Carol Matsuzaki was pleased with the effort from the young squad, putting up a tenacious fight in each match.

For the second match in a row, Serena Lin had a dramatic win at No. 1 singles. After losing the first set, 6-2, she changed the pace of her game by mixing up her shots. Lin went on to take the next two sets, 6-3, 10-7, for the victory. The Engineers' (1-1, 1-1 NEWMAC) other win came at No. 5 singles by Jill Konowich. She defeated Emily McDonald, 7-5, 7-5, in a hard-fought match.

The next match for MIT will be Saturday, Sept. 18 at 1:00 p.m. when it travels to Springfield College to continue NEWMAC play.
