MIT Competes at ITA New England Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - The MIT women's tennis team had a very promising showing at the ITA New England Championship Tournament held this past weekend at Williams College. Individually and in doubles play, Serena Lin and Jaclyn Cichon combined for a 3-5 record.

In singles play, Elaine Ni defeated Melissa White (Trinity College), 6-3, 6-1. She then fell to Kelsey Hughes (Bowdoin College), 6-2, 6-0. Jusleen Karve was blanked by Brittany Binet (Williams College), 6-0, 6-0, in her first round match. In the consolation bracket, she lost 6-3, 6-2 to Jamie Weiss (Wheaton College). Serena Lin won her first match by shutting out Lydia Lindhult (RPI), 6-0, 6-0. Her next match proved to be much tougher, falling to Claire Smyser (Middlebury College), 4-6, 6-4, 10-4. Jaclyn Cichon was defeated by Julia Shaver (Bowdoin College), 6-0, 6-1, in the first round. She then faced Britt Olwine (Trinity College) in the consolation bracket. Cichon took the first set, 7-6 (4), but dropped the next two, 6-2, 10-8.

The doubles team of Elaine Ni and Jusleen Karve defeated Murphy/Stein (Amherst College), 8-4. They lost to Kemp/Linz (Smith College), 8-3. Jaclyn Cichon and Serena Lin picked up an 8-2 win over Lindhult/LaManque (RPI), before falling to Berck/Roche (Middlebury College), 8-0. In consolation play, the duo from MIT lost to Lubold/Resnick (Mount Holyoke College), 8-4.
