CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - MIT continues to roll in NEWMAC play, extending its winning streak to five after a 7-2 win over Mount Holyoke College on Saturday. With the win, the Engineers improve to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in Conference action.
Serena Lin swept her No. 1 singles opponent for the second match in a row and posted an 8-4 win in the No. 2 doubles spot with partner Mariah Hoover. Elaine Ni and Joanna MacKay took the top doubles spot by an 8-5 margin. Jaclyn Cichon and Zandile Williams fell, 8-6, in their hard-fought No. 3 doubles match. Despite a strong showing in her No. 2 singles match, Cichon lost, 6-4, 7-5. After losing the first set of their matches, Elaine Ni and Emily Chen came back to post three-set victories. Ni won, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 3 position while Chen finished 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 4 spot. Mariah Hoover earned a 6-3, 6-0 win as Joanna MacKay picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
MIT will conclude regular season NEWMAC play on Tuesday, Oct. 12 when it hosts defending Conference champion Babson College.
