Harper Leads the Way for Tech at Northeastern Invite

BOSTON, Mass. – The MIT men's and women's track and field teams opened up their outdoor seasons on Saturday, sending a small contingent of runners to the Northeastern Invitational. Tech had entries in the 5000 and 10,000 meter races at the non-scoring invitational meet.

Senior Daniel Harper (Naperville, Ill.) had the most impressive performance of the day, winning the 10k with a time of 30:37.38, a personal best and the third-fastest time in Institute history. Harper's time ranks fourth on the season in Division III. Sophomore Roy Wedge (Lawrence, Kan.) buoyed Harper's showing with a fourth-place finish of his own, coming through in 32:21.39.

In the women's 10,000 meters, freshman Dacie Manion (Old Town, Maine) took fourth place with a time of 37:33.47, the fastest time among Division III runners and second-best collegiate finish. The time was a personal record for Manion and the seventh-best in MIT history.

Senior Stephen Serene (Washington, D.C.) finished fourth in the 5000 meters with his time of 15:18.05. Sophomore Justin Bullock (Detroit, Mich.) was not far behind, finishing in 15:34.72, good for eighth place.

Senior Margaret Lloyd (Sacramento, Calif.) was third in the women's 5000 meters, crossing the finish in 18:47.06.

The Cardinal and Gray will travel to California for its annual spring break training trip this week, competing in a meet at Westmont College on Saturday, March 31.
