CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Ten men and 12 women on the MIT indoor and outdoor track and field teams were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team for the 2012-13 year, as announced late last month. The organization honored student-athletes for their combined efforts in the classroom and in competition. Last year, eight men and ten women on MIT's teams earned the honor.
On the men's side, the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse led the way with 16 honorees. Tufts University was second with 12, and MIT and North Central College (Ill.) tied for third with ten. For the women, Wartburg College was the best-represented school with 14 student-athletes, while the Engineers were a close second with 12. MIT led the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with 22 honorees.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have either competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the top 35 in an individual event or top 25 in a relay event.
