BOSTON, Mass. - Three members of the MIT women's indoor track and field team opened the 2013-14 season on Saturday morning, traveling just down the road to Boston University for the Season Opener. All three of the Engineers competed in the 3000m.
Crossing the line first for the Cardinal and Gray and competing in her first collegiate track and field meet was freshman Maryann Gong (Livermore, Calif.), who finished in fourth place with a time of 9:52.74 and set a new MIT varsity and freshman record by almost four seconds. She was followed by senior Louise van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) in sixth with a 9:56.28 and graduate student Brooke Johnson (Shoreham, N.Y.) in seventh place in 10:10.14.
Now that Tech has opened the season, the Engineers will have to wait exactly four weeks until their next meet. The Alumni Meet will take place at home on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 12:00 p.m. The quad meet between MIT, Bates, Colby and the University of Southern Maine will take place the following weekend at Bates.
