Women's Track and Field Lands 16 on the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team

Boston, Mass. (May 8) -- Sixteen members of the MIT women's outdoor track and field team have been honored as members of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference Team, as announced recently by the league. MIT and WPI are tied for the league lead with 16 each, while 85 student-athletes are honored overall.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: Earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale after the 2016 fall semester, achieved second-year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

This past weekend, the MIT women's track and field team won its fifth straight New England Division III Outdoor Championship with a 13.5-point victory over No. 3 ranked Williams College. The Engineers had 25 All-New England individual honors and three relays as well. The previous weekend, the women's team also captured its ninth straight NEWMAC Outdoor Championship and 10th overall with a convincing victory at home.
