CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's indoor track and field team claimed third place in its own TechTrack Classic held in the Johnson Athletic Center this past weekend. The College of the Holy Cross won the event, followed by Colby College, the host Engineers, UMass-Lowell, NYU, Mount Holyoke College, Regis College, and Emerson College.
Meri Silberstein posted the top finishes for MIT in the 55 dash (7.78), 200 (28.29), and the long jump (15'11.00"). Leanne Veldhuis recorded the best time for the Engineers in the 400, finishing in 1:01.68. Stephanie Flavin paced Tech with a 5:42.82 time in the mile while Teagen Andres logged a 1:46.18 in the 600. Andrea Staid led the way in the 800 in 2:34.85 while Nancy Benedetti completed the 1000 in 3:14.94. Victoria Hsu edged out Jennifer Gaugler for the best MIT performance in the 3000, crossing the finish line in 11:28.17, with Gaugler finishing in 11:28.74. Christine Fanchiang set the best marks for the Engineers in the 55 hurdles (9.36) and pole vault (9'7.00"). Karen Davie posted a distance of 32'11.00" in the triple jump, while Aline Thomas threw 33'0.25" in the shot put and 39'02.50" in the weight throw.
