MEDFORD, Mass. - The women's track team placed 13th in the 22 team field last Saturday at the 2006 New England Division III Championships. The Engineers finished with 25.50 points, while champion Williams College totaled 154.
The MIT freshman were particularly impressive at the Gantcher Center on Saturday. Adrienne Bolger placed third (3:00.44) in the 1000 meter run and broke her own record by 4.43 seconds. Emily Hwang cleared 3.37 meters in the pole vault to finish second. Only Jane Farrell's (Brandeis University) 3.52 meter vault bested Hwang's mark, the fourth best all-time for MIT and a provisional NCAA National Qualifier.
In the weight throw, sophomore Aline Thomas continued her stellar play with a 14.75 meter toss. She moved into third all-time in the event for MIT and placed fourth.
The Engineers also had solid team performances in the 4x800 and distance medley relays. In the distance relay, the women completed the race in 12:30.45 (fifth), the second best time in MIT history. The women also set the number two all-time mark in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:48.77 (eighth).
