CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Jacqui Wentz has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week after a record breaking performance at the Terrier Invitational at Boston University over the weekend.
Wentz became the first woman in the country to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in the 5000 meters, shattering the Institute record in the process, with a time of 17:05.20. Wentz placed ninth overall in the meet amidst a field of mainly Division I runners; she was the top Division III finisher in the event by a wide margin.
The junior also anchored the Engineers' distance medley team, running the 1600m leg in 5:04.20, her best ever time at that distance. The MIT quartet finished eighth overall with a time of 12:21.43.
The Cardinal and Grey will travel to Brunswick, Maine next Saturday to compete against Bowdoin, Colby, Springfield and Tufts.
