CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Jacqui Wentz has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s Co-Track Athlete of the Week after an historic performance for the nationally-ranked no. 9 MIT women’s track & field team at the Valentine’s Invitational hosted by Boston University.
Wentz ran an astounding 5:00.33 mile on Saturday, shattering the MIT record by over nine seconds while provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championship. Wentz finished 19th in the event overall and third among Division III runners. The junior also anchored the distance medley relay team that set a school record with a time of 12:03.55 and hit the NCAA Provisional mark. Wentz ran the final leg in 5:02.80 to lead the Engineers to a sixth place finish in the event.
Wentz and the Engineers will compete in this weekend’s Division III New England Championship hosted by Bates College.
